The Romulan found herself on her back with the oil spilled all over herself and the floor in clumps that slowly were turning less viscous. One hand covered her eyes and the other's finger tips rapped against the floor one at a time in quick succession. Something to perhaps laugh about later, but right now there was just a tinge of annoyance.

"...So that we could send each other private messages? I thought it might be nice just randomly hearing your voice during a shift. Or you telling me to pick up something from the station commissary. Or just to know how your day is going. I don't understand Human romance that well... If that's something you're not comfortable with, it's not necessary."

Looking distinctly uncomfortable, Zero turned her gaze to look at the deck plates of the shuttle. She had jumped to conclusions about the purpose of having the communications device. In her defense, it came a little too close to the device currently residing in her pericardium and the thought of it gave her the same sensation of being hunted and watched.

"I apologise. I should not have leapt to unfounded conclusions."

Moving her hand from her face, Jiseth leaned her head up to look upon her Augment. What seemed harmless still brought up terrible memories and fears. At the very least now she knew not to get too ridiculous in extravagance. Simpler started to sound better and better for Zero's ring.

"Zero... I got a bit of sun as well. Could you help get this spread over? I can finish yours too if you'd like. Besides, I should be sorry. I'll put more thought into it. Keep it purely symbolic. Sound better?"

Creeping back to the bunk with the air of Ghost when he knew that he had done something wrong, Zero picked up the little jar of cream, scooping out a little onto her fingers before workng it into the sections of skin where she could see the green hues of a burn beginning to develop. She remained quiet, focused on her work, trying to banish the unwelcome thoughts and memories from her mind.

A few moments passed before she spoke again: "E'lev, I... I fear that if we allow our union to become public knowledge, there may be retribution..."

Jiseth let out a long sigh as she could feel the oil seemingly pull the heat away from her skin. There was no sharp chill, but a soothing and calming lukewarm. Scooping some from what was on her stomach, she began to work on Zero's stomach and chest.

"We can keep it private... Wouldn't have to do the ceremony until after we sort things out with Medical. That way... we wouldn't be walking down the aisle with half smiles and forced appearances as happiness. It would be a pure celebration of our lives together. We'll do what we have to in the meantime. I'll fly the ship and you make sure the poor souls on board have something on their medical records other than, 'my wife's antics at the helm.'"

The oil being worked into her skin was a soothing element. She could feel the heat being drawn from the burns and the faint tingling as they started to heal over. By the next morning, or maybe the morning after, there wouldn't be any trace left.

"I think that would be our best course of action," she replied, continuing to rub the oil into the greenish sunburns on Jiseth's skin. Knowing that putting off the wedding and keeping their engagement private was likely not something that would please the Romulan, she added: "It will allow us extra time in which to plan. Perhaps the captain will be able to assist us."

"Apparently most couples aren't prepared for exactly how much planning is involved. Though, I'm not certain ours would be as large as Henriks and Chira's. Of course... Captain T'Koris knows how to pull one off as well. Location will be a big part..."

Jiseth paused and looked up at Zero for a moment before resuming her work on Zero's legs.

"We could do it where we met. It has more than enough to accommodate us, but... What if we did it here? Would you like that?"

Zero knew that their wedding wasn't likely to be as large as Chira and Henriks, nor even as big as Archangel and Gabriel's. The Augment had no family beyond Gavin and even that connection was somewhat distant, nor did she have many people she considered to be friends.

In all honesty, she wasn't all that concerned about the location of the wedding, but she knew that the Romulan could be very sentimental, so she gave a nod and a slight smile. "I would, yes."

"In that case..."

Jiseth moved her glossy, oiled hands down Zero's legs slowly. Moving back up them, she leaned in for a long kiss on her lips. What she would give for more time, but they would have to return eventually and she had an agreement to uphold.

"...Why don't we scout around for a place? It can be your first flight lesson."

Zero frowned slightly at her lover as she offered to scout around for a place. She thought that Jiseth had wanted to host it at the hotel where they had met. Then again, there were quite a few bad memories associated with that as well, such as the security officers interrupting their breakfast after their first morning together.

The offer of the flight lesson, however, caused her to smile slightly. "I would like that. I feel that I should warn you that I have not piloted a craft before."

"No, but you're a skilled surgeon. That sort of delicate touch is important."

Jiseth rose to her feet and offered her had to Zero.

"I'll be there with you. It will be simple and I'm sure you'll learn quickly. You'd be surprised how much confidence you'll gain after a few hours."

Taking Jiseth's hand and standing up, she offered the Romulan a faint, not particularly confident smile. She wasn't all that reassured by the words spoken, but she still wanted to learn. This was a major part of her fiancée's world. She wanted to be able to share it.

"Perhaps it would be prudent to dress ourselves first," she replied.

"Let the oil get absorbed so your clothes don't stick."

Moving toward the cabin washroom, Jiseth took several towels which were then carried to the cockpit and put over the leather chairs. Looking behind her, she waved her hand to Zero, giving the all clear.

Looking out beyond the cliff edge, they had many miles of space for Zero to practice. With any luck, she would not have to take the controls too much. The hatches began to close and seal as the engines came to life in a low hum.

"I'll monitor the systems, you can just focus on attitude control."

That did make sense, so Zero padded after Jiseth into the cockpit and took a seat, looking at the controls in front of her. None of them made any sense what so ever. She looked up at Jiseth with an expression of helplessness and confusion.

"Help?"

The Romulan sputtered as she covered trying not laugh. It took her a few moments to regain composure before standing and moving over next to Zero. Making sure everything checked out, she took Zero's left hand and brought it next to the two throttles. Her right she placed to the attitude control on the display.

"Okay... You have two things on your left. Top one gives speed forward or backward. Bottom one does ventral thrust for lift. On the right you have pitch; up and down. Then roll; rotating about the long axis which when combined with pitch is how we do right turns. There's also yaw; turning laterally left or right which helps with stability and maneuvering at slow speeds. Got it?"

Zero scowled at the Romulan as she spluttered, figuring that she was laughing at her, and that wasn't something that ever sat well with the Augment. She turned her attention back to the helm controls, trying to concentrate on what she would need to get the shuttle off the ground.

Moving slowly, unsure of herself, she engaged the ventral thrusters, reasoning that she would need to get the damned thing up into the air before she could do anything with it.

The shuttle began to lift off the ground about half a meter per second. Slow, but altitude would be gained nonetheless. A swell if pride started to rise in her chest with her partner at the helm.

"You can hit that purple button to the left of the thrusters to hold our altitude so we'll hover. Below it in green is the landing gear selector. Slide it to the right until it turns red so they'll retract."

Zero did as instructed, her long, pale fingers swiping the landing gear command to retract the stanchions. She did wait a few seconds before tapping the altitude lock, wanting to bring the shuttle a little further into the air before stopping the process. It would give her a little more time to react if something went wrong. Not that she would know how to react, but the logic was there.

"How do I make it go forward?" she asked, looking up at her Romulan, her head tilted to one side.

"Remember that meter above the thrusters? That's your throttle. You can slide it forward, but we'll end up at the mountains pretty quickly. If you look just above that, there'll be a box you can input the desired horizontal speed in meters per second. For right now, put a 1 there."

Jiseth's eyes shifted from the consoles to the view port. Her training had her look for traffic in the area, but there was none. The only hazard could be a flock of birds or swarm of insects obscuring their visibility or worse, getting into the engines. Returning her gaze to the sensors, everything showed clear skies with a few clouds. A perfect day.

Listening carefully to Jiseth, the Augment committed the information to memory and scanned the console in front of her for the controls that had been pointed out, taking care as she entered the desired speed into the computer. The shuttle started to drift forward, barely above walking speed.

Looking up at Jiseth again, she gave a wide smile, almost childlike in its exuberance. "I am piloting!"

"Yes, you are!"

With a happy chuckle Jiseth kissed the top of Zero's head.

"Okay, in the center of the console you can see the course heading given in degrees. We're facing almost due East, so turn us to 180, which is South. There's a selector beneath the heading indicator to make the setting. This is how we normally fly in high traffic areas because the ship doesn't need a lot of pilot input to go. Still, with what I've told you so far, why don't you take us near one of the waterfalls over there."

Once again, Zero's fingers tapped at the console, keying in the directions Jiseth had given her. It was surprisingly easy, she was finding. The hardest part seemed to be finding all of the controls. That bit wasn't all that easy.

The shuttle crept around to the appropriate heading, still moving at a snail's pace. Frowning slightly, she keyed the speed up to 3 metres per second and started to point the craft toward the waterfalls her Romulan had pointed out.

"Good... Good!"

The Romulan's face was beaming. If it were not for their proximity to the controls, she would be hugging the air out of Zero. This was far more amusing, Jiseth thought, than falling on her rear trying to attempt ballet.

"Try lowering us to the bottom of the falls and following the tributary into the main river. Mind the trees, e'lev."

The Augment did as she was told, her mind calculating rapidly as she tried to keep the shuttle stable so that she didn't have to rely on the inertial dampeners to do the work for her.

Her fingers danced over the controls, micromanaging every element of direction as the craft followed the silver ribbon of water, only occasionally skimming against the branches of the surrounding trees. It was harder than it looked, that was for sure, but there was little that the Augment couldn't do if she applied herself to its study.

Leaning over, Jiseth brushed the tip of her nose along the rim of Zero's ear pressing her lips just above. The many smooth strands of white hair were warm to the touch. Pulling away, the Romulan moved to the pilot's seat and sat back with her hands behind her head.

"When we get out over the main channel, hold in the middle of it."
