The more they learned about the structure out there, the more Archangel found her engineer's side getting excited about the prospect of actually getting to see one of these legendary ships.  Unfortunately for her, chances were that she wouldn't be allowed to accompany the away team.  Maybe once it had been checked out, she could go over...

"Commander, put together an away team and go take a look."

"Aye captain." Julia nodded. She looked around the room as she contemplated what the team should look like.

"Kejal and Tarunt. Transporter room one please."

Then in one seem less motion she tapped on her communicator. =/\="Bridge to Ensign Kaz and Lieutenant Kintiss. Please report to transporter room one for away mission duty. We are going to explore that vessel."=/\=

"Ah." Now he knew what she meant. It was no secret that getting Captain T'Koris into Sickbay for her physical was as easy as handling a live Sehlat. He'd been privy to many hours of angry complaining from other members of Medical, bemoaning how hard it was to get the Captain to even enter Sickbay. He supposed that, now, it was his turn to do the complaining. Well, that was going to be fun.

Now there was the sound of a new chief medical officer who had just realised what he was in for with Captain T'Koris as his commanding officer. There were going to be many arguments between the two of them, but Ilana was sure that the Selay was up to the task of dragging their captain into sickbay for her check ups.

"N-n-no p-p-problem," she replied, nodding her head once. "I'l t-t-try t-t-to m-m-make a d-d-dent in th-th-the l-l-list wh-while y-y-you're a-away!" Her smile faded slightly, her voice taking on a more serious tone as she imparted one last piece of advice: "S-s-stay s-s-safe out th-th-there."

Elena glanced up from her console as she heard her name being mentioned. She was quite surprised that she was picked, out of all the others, who were likely more experienced.

"Ma'am." She answered, acknowledging the reply as she finished up on the terminal and headed to the turbolift, waiting for the other's, since going the same place as her.

"This should be a fun one, crewman." She stepped into the transporter with the young crewman.

Buris fairly well jumped out of his seat when Rellek ordered him to the Transporter Room. It had been a long time since he'd been on a decent Away mission. So long, in fact, that he didn't think about the last few such missions on the Phoenix before tapping his commbadge to call his replacement up to the Bridge. =/\="Crewman Sigma Nu, report to the Bridge to take the Operations station. Repeat, Crewman Sigma Nu to the Bridge."=/\=

He normally wouldn't leave without having someone on standby to take the station from him, but right now he wanted to get over there and get some hands-on experience. He checked his tricorder quickly to make sure it was reading correctly, and set it to download the xenoengineering files the ship had on solar sails and Bajoran 'sailboats'. The download would be quick, of course, long before he reached Transporter Room 1. He was glad for that, having only seen one ship in a museum from the days when Science or Communications officers had to actually bring datatapes to Away missions and switch them on the fly. Downloading at a touch was so much simpler.

Having just seen Young getting the Transporter under control, he had utmost confidence in the device and the officer working the controls. So with that, he gave a nod to Captain T'Koris and the others who were staying behind, leaving the Bridge and heading down to Transporter Room 1 right behind Rellek and Tarunt.

He glanced at Young and nodded without saying a word. After all, he couldn't mention something that was going to be off the record, and her complete sense of 'lost-ness' had to stay off the record if she was to advance (and he was to look like he had a halfway functional team). She was a transfer from the Starbase, little things like diagnostic equipment failure didn't occur to her.

He did look at Kaz and smile, though. "Oh, good, Ensign Kaz. Did you get the diagnostic running on that faulty terminal? Any results yet?"

Out of the subjects Elena had studied, history, of Humanity or others, were not one of them, and so most mentions of this being something similar to Bajoran solar ships went over her head.

[Tactical Pod - Deck C]

"Sir, with all due respect, I don't think I've done anything to warrant you pulling my leg like that. What on earth do you mean that 'they want me on the Bridge'? I know my job here, I'll be hopeless down there!"

The man in charge of the torpedo room looked at Opran. Ever since the alert that ships' sensors had picked up a vessel, they'd been on what could be called 'pseudo-alert' - there were no unnecessary tasks being performed, no one was doing anything but making sure that if there was a problem and they were called to action, everything would be in perfect running order. It was a tense sort of existence when entire shifts were spent on the razor's edge in the Torpedo Room, checking and double-checking equipment; being ready at a moment's notice to throw enough force to annihilate a small moon from this one room. It warped one's sense of time, too, as there were no portholes up here, the chronometers mostly there to show the load/unload times. Minutes stretched into hours.

Still, the call had come that they needed a junior Tactical officer on the Bridge. And right now, he was one of the more junior members of the department; certainly one of the newer.

So with a few words back and forth, he shrugged his uniform jacket back on and headed down in the turbolift. He swore he could feel when the car switched from the Pod to the Ship, there was a difference in temperature and air pressure - he could suddenly breathe easier rather than feeling like there was stale air.

He stepped onto the Bridge and looked at Lieutenant Pardek and the Captain - and noticed that a few people seemed to be missing. "Uh, Ensign Opran, reporting, sir? I was told to come down here from the Pod?"

"Yeah we're back online." Leela glanced over to Ensign Young and then back to Kejal. "I got it fixed." She leaned in closer to her colleague. "She overlooked a simple diagnostic issue. But its okay, its fixed now." Leela was surprised by her incompetence. Perhaps it would come for her in time.

She walked through the doors with the young security officer following closely. "Thanks for coming so promptly everyone. We are about to investigate an ancient solar powered vessel. We don't expect to find anyone over there but place phasers on stun just to be safe. Any questions before we depart?" She looked to the group to signal their agreement.

"When have I ever done otherwissse?" Kintiss asked as he left for the transporter room. That was a question he would prefer to leave unanswered. Putting his butt on the line for other people was practically a staple of being a Starfleet officer. Now that he was CMO, he'd have to do it a lot more often.

[Transporter Room One]

One quick turbolift ride later, Kintiss nipped into Transporter Room One just before Lieutenant Commander Rellek began her talk.

Hanging at the back, behind some of the Engineering crew, he listened patiently. He had no questions, so he remained quiet.

Being a captain had its joys and priviledges, certainly, but one of the things Archangel hated the most about the position was the fact that she wasn't allowed to go on away missions into unknown or hostile territory. This was one mission where she would have loved to argue the point with her first officer, but sometimes there were things that just weren't worth the paperwork.

Her attention was distracted by the arrival of the tactical relief, a Trill she had rarely seen since he seemed to be assigned to the pod for the majority of the time.

"Welcome to the bridge, Mr Opran. Please take the tactical console and keep eyes on that solar ship."

Elena grinned before following the superior Officer into the transporter room, noticing another Officer slip in just in time for the Lieutenant Commander to start speaking.

When asked for any questions, Elena shook her head. As Security, there wouldn't be too much she could do apart from keep the others safe, so her task would be relatively straight forward.

Julia stepped up onto the transporter pad along with the away team. "Energize Ensign." Julia nodded towards the young officer manning the controls.

[Alien Vessel]

The team materialized on the alien vessel. The room was dark and Julia wasn't able to get a good look around. There didn't seem to be any emergency lights or any other sources of light other than the small flashlights they had brought along. She pulled out her tricorder. "I'm not detecting any lifesigns. Kaz and Kejal, see if you can get us some lights."

The main verbal response from Arlan was a simple, "Aye, Cap'n."  And with that he took over the tactical board.  Far more general than the one in the torpedo bay, this tactical board had sensor feeds from everywhere on the ship.  He wasn't immediately accustomed to it, but was able to get to work. It felt like walking into a room where all the furniture is the same as one you know, but the room itself is twice the size.

Still, even with the amount of info, nothing doing is still nothing doing.  So he stood, silently.

Buris hated stale air and dead starships - even as he enjoyed exploring them. He'd come across too many floating derelicts, sealed and dead, their crews taken by transporter and killed - and that was Bajoran, Cardassian, Maquis, and even a few Federation or Klingon ships. Still, you could tell a lot from the smell of stale air. There was no wafting smell of fried circuitry, nor the smell of blood here.

When Kaz found what appeared to be an interface, he walked over and spoke in mid-thought. "I think I forgot EV suits and transporter beacons. Then we'd have lighting enough for all of us. Therefore, I think I'm safer here than anywhere near Captain T'Koris at the moment."

Strangely, it was evident that he was attempting to make a joke, even though he had his tricorder out and started scanning. "Without the benefit of several lifetimes, I've only seen this kind of tech in books and holosimulations."

There was no obvious place to begin the interface; and there was nothing that gave any indication except for the relative lack of dust on the palm-sized bulb rising smoothly out of the hard pearlescent surface. He knew she was probably right, but trying to actually get any response from it could take all day - if they couldn't find a frequency guide or an access key. He crouched, looking at the curved ergonomic paneling. Thankfully, he had remembered both his hydrospanner and a set of small screwdrivers. "Well, here's the way I'm seeing it: either we get lucky, and this panel has circuitry behind it, or we're going to need to start combing the entire Bridge for better clues on how to get in."

[Alien Vessel]

"Well text books only give you the information. The beauty lies in the details." She took her hand and balled it into a small fist and knocked on the panel Buris was about to open. A high pitched clink echoed through the room. The she made the same knock on the panel next to it. This time the sound was deeper. "Yep, you have the right panel. The circuitry was bulkier at this phase of ship development. The panels were made thinner to accommodate ll of the wiring and such. So if you want to know... just knock." She chuckled as a mischievous grin settled onto her face. "That's the kind of nuance those text books won't give you. You can thank Jereda for that little tidbit."

[Transporter Room One]

"Damn!" Kristen muttered as she realized the transporter was down again. She wasn't sure if it was the diagnostic system again or if this was a new problem.

=/\="Transporter room one to engineering. The transporter is down again. Can you see if you can diagnose the problem?"=/\=

Buris held the tricorder for Kaz to see, showing that he'd had a strong impression that the circuitry would have to be there. Still, he appreciated her confirmation of his suspicions. "Indeed. Well, thank Jereda for that, whoever that may be. However, many old ships that I have encountered are quite thoroughly booby-trapped, and I am glad that you have not been thrown across the bridge by a concussive detonator. Panels that appear hollow may have a thin layer of plastic explosive behind them, sensitive to pressure changes. You may thank Loris Tyval for that tidbit... if the Kais are correct, and you ever have the misfortune to enter the Bajoran wormhole without benefit of a runabout."

It was at times like this his history became obvious. Yes, as a Starfleet officer, curiosity had been rammed into his brain. But far deeper was a certain animal cunning and the caution of someone who'd seen the darker side of the galaxy. Soon, though, he'd pulled out his tools and was working around the panel slowly. "I do wonder, though. Obviously, panels like these are sealed during normal operation; which implies some kind of other control method. I wonder what it is, and where it was stored. This ship feels... entombed."

[Bridge]

With the away team having been transported to the solar vessel, Archangel was becoming a little more anxious with the passing time without hearing anything from them. Whether it was her paranoia or an actual sense of dread, she wasn't sure, but it was certainly on her mind.

She started to pace the length of the bridge for a few moments before turning to the Trill standing at the tactical station.

"Opran, what can you tell me about the situation over there?"

[Bridge]

Arlan knew bored paranoia when he saw it. It was the norm for him in the torpedo bay, and seeing the Captain acting like any bay commander actually helped him calm down. The only thing that didn't help was that he was the target of her attention.

He called up everything he had in front of him on the other ship. "They haven't restored power, the life-support is at the same state it was, and it appears they've broken off into teams. No foreign life signs detected, just our people. No danger to our people at this time, Captain."

Archangel nodded to the Trill, acknowledging his report, but it did little to reassure her as to the safety of the away team. She made a mental note to send more security and more engineering personnel with them next time, or possibly go along with them herself.

"Keep close tabs on them, Opran. I have a bad feeling about this."

"It is an odd feeling." Leela said as she fumbled with the equipment finally locating the appropriate relay and plugging it into the panel. With the surge of energy emergency lights flickered all over the ship. Eventually the flickering stopped and the lights illuminated the vessel. "I'll keep an eye for booby traps." She smiled as she put the flashlight down. "Thank you for your assistance Lieutenant."
